Bone Densitometry

With the bone density measurement, the calcium salt content of the bone is determined. This is an essential factor for the stability of the bones.

When the bone density (i.e. the calcium salt content of the bone) is significantly reduced (osteoporosis), a treatment with different drugs makes sense.

How does bone densitometry work?

There are different methods of bone density measurement available. The method we use is the so-called DEXA (Dual X-Ray Absorptiometry) method. This method is the most recommended and used worldwide. It is based on a very low dose of X-radiation. Here, the attenuation of X-rays of varying energy levels through the body in the measuring region is measured. The DEXA method is used to examine the lumbar spine and a femoral neck bone.
